Literacy Blog #1 6/12/17

My favorite subjects in middle school was health and history but my least favorite subjects was math and english. I felt like my health and history teachers took time out to really teach us the information. They just did not give us work just to be doing it. They had a lot of passion about the subject that they were teaching. I am more of a kinesthetic learner, so that mean I have to learn by doing. They made sure that the way they taught reach all the different types of learners. On the other hand with my math and english teacher, they only taught one way and that was by talking with no interaction with the students. They did not try and reach out to the other types of learners that was in the classroom. So when it was time to do homework I struggled a lot, because I felt like I was not learning in class and I was trying to figure it out on my own. It took me a little bit longer to process the information and the pace that the teachers would go at did not suit my learning style. I have not been in classroom on my own yet, but I have done some student teaching. I have done a little bit of both while I was doing my student teaching. Sometime you do not even know that you are doing it while you are teaching. The good thing is that I got a lot of good advice from my overseer about how to fix those mistakes. I conceder that feedback that was given to me as positive feedback because it help me better myself in the long run.

Literacy blog #6

I remember back in the third grade my teacher had the best classroom library. She had all sorts of things like pillows, bean bag chairs, colorful mat, a ton of books, and a table with chairs. When we finished our work she allowed us to go over and pick a book that we wanted to read. That was the life during third-grade reading. The reason I think it is important to have a classroom library is that this is when kids fall in love with reading. I know my teacher love seeing the student's eyes light up when they are able to choose and read the book they wanted to read. The teacher library usually reflects the teacher personality. I think the books in my classroom should be sports books since I want to be a physical education teacher. I would have autobiography about coaches, player, and teams. I would also have books about how to play certain sports. I want my students to have every expose to sports game and information about historically great sports individuals.

Literacy Blog #3 6/20/17

One of my past reading habits was that I had was a narrow reader. Narrow reading is when you reading one word at a time. At that point of time, I felt like I could only read one word at a time. My brain and eyes were not processing the information fast enough for me to read it with fluency. So, it took me a long time before it started to make progressions on reading with fluency. I still struggle sometimes with some words, but I am way better than I was when I was younger. What I do now is use my finger as a pointer. This helps my eyes get to seeing multiple words quicker. I have to read during the daytime and in a quiet place. I the type of person that every little thing will grab my attention. So, if its people in the background or music being played my whole focus would be on the other stuff, not the book that I am trying to read. It also must be in the daytime because I'm an early bird. Literacy Blog #5

The strategies that I could use in my content area is Think Pair Share. The way I could use this strategy in my content area is by haveing the students use it in a basketball lesson about dribbling. So, during the thinking stage, I would have them write down why they think dribbling is important to basketball. Now, in the pair stage, the students would discuss with a partner about the idea they wrote down and then write down some idea they might not have thought about after their partner shared. Now the sharing stage is when they will review their ideas and circle the one that is most important and share the idea with the class. As the student listens to the class they will write down some idea they might have missed on their own or from the first person they shared with.
