I remember back in the third grade my teacher had the best classroom library. She had all sorts of things like pillows, bean bag chairs, colorful mat, a ton of books, and a table with chairs. When we finished our work she allowed us to go over and pick a book that we wanted to read. That was the life during third-grade reading. The reason I think it is important to have a classroom library is that this is when kids fall in love with reading. I know my teacher love seeing the student's eyes light up when they are able to choose and read the book they wanted to read. The teacher library usually reflects the teacher personality. I think the books in my classroom should be sports books since I want to be a physical education teacher. I would have autobiography about coaches, player, and teams. I would also have books about how to play certain sports. I want my students to have every expose to sports game and information about historically great sports individuals.

The strategies that I could use in my content area is Think Pair Share. The way I could use this strategy in my content area is by haveing the students use it in a basketball lesson about dribbling. So, during the thinking stage, I would have them write down why they think dribbling is important to basketball. Now, in the pair stage, the students would discuss with a partner about the idea they wrote down and then write down some idea they might not have thought about after their partner shared. Now the sharing stage is when they will review their ideas and circle the one that is most important and share the idea with the class. As the student listens to the class they will write down some idea they might have missed on their own or from the first person they shared with. The thing I like about this strategy is you get ideas flowing. Sometimes it is hard to come up with ideas on your own. If you have that other person to guide you then you might not struggl...

As we were going over the text today the one definition that stuck out to me was RAFT. RAFT is (role of the writer, audience, format, and topic). This strategy helps the student by helping them see the text from another point of view. The student will have to assume a specific role, address an intended audience, follow a given format, and use the topic that was given. This strategy will make the students demonstrate their deeper understanding of ideas and concepts. This also gives the students freedom to be creative by placing themselves as the writer.

One of my past reading habits was that I had was a narrow reader. Narrow reading is when you reading one word at a time. At that point of time, I felt like I could only read one word at a time. My brain and eyes were not processing the information fast enough for me to read it with fluency. So, it took me a long time before it started to make progressions on reading with fluency. I still struggle sometimes with some words, but I am way better than I was when I was younger. What I do now is use my finger as a pointer. This helps my eyes get to seeing multiple words quicker. I have to read during the daytime and in a quiet place. I the type of person that every little thing will grab my attention. So, if its people in the background or music being played my whole focus would be on the other stuff, not the book that I am trying to read. It also must be in the daytime because I'm an early bird. When I get sleepy I'm going to call it a night no matter what I ...

This week we discussed defining literacy in a digital world. I like the fact that Dr. Giles allowed us to browse different websites, and answer different questions regarding each one. She asked questions like, which age group does the website appeal to? What would someone use the website for? How would someone interact with the information within the website? What literacy skills are necessary? We were to examine the websites by observing the words, images, and sounds to determine the answers to each question. We did not have much time, but we understood the basic idea of the activity. A topic we discussed was prior knowledge. Prior knowledge is when you already know about the subject before learning more about it. The second activity specifically dealt with this topic. Dr. Giles split us into groups, and she presented us with a word we had to define. In addition, we have to provide examples, unique qualities, and write out sentences with examples about the parts ...

My favorite subjects in middle school was health and history but my least favorite subjects was math and english . I felt like my health and history teachers took time out to really teach us the information. They just did not give us work just to be doing it. They had a lot of passion about the subject that they were teaching. I am more of a kinesthetic learner, so that mean I have to learn by doing. They made sure that the way they taught reach all the different types of learners. On the other hand with my math and english t eacher , they only taught one way and that was by talking with no interaction with the students. They did not try and reach out to the other types of learners that was in the classroom. So when it was time to do homework I struggled a lot, because I felt like I was not learning in class and I was trying to figure it out on my own. It took me a little bit longer to process the information and the pace that the teachers would go at did not suit my learnin...
